Biography

Mike Burton’s storied career spans five decades in an array of stellar programs and services such as forensics, baseball, national boards, and officiating. In June of 2019 he was hired by the NCAA as their first director of division two football officiating, overseeing officials nationally. Mike received the 1995 Teacher of the Year for the State of Washington, National Speech and Debate Hall of Fame, 2015 NF High School National Hall of Fame, 2009 Washington Officials Association Hall of Fame, and 2009 WIAA Hall of Fame in both officiating and speech and debate. In football he won nine state championships and five semi-final games in high school and a National Championship game in NAIA and two national semifinals in NCAA. He was Football Commissioner for the NIFOA from 1995 to 2019 supervisor with three National Championship Football Officiating crews for NCAA DII and DIII and NAIA. His NIFOA crews worked 67 play-off games in NCAA and NAIA and 72 of his officials have advanced to DI.
